Transfers FAQs
-
What time can you arrive?
Whilst we ask that you do not arrive at the chalet before 12pm (with rooms ready by 4pm), we can accommodate earlier arrivals by meeting you in Meribel, taking your luggage off your hands and having it ready for you in the chalet.
-
Which airport should you fly into?
When booking your flight, it’s worth checking how easy it will be to get a transfer from your destination airport. As a general rule, there are more transfers available from Geneva airport in comparison with Lyon, Grenoble and Chambery.
Whilst you may find a cheaper flight into Grenoble or Lyon airport, you may find that the airport transfer from these airports is more expensive so it’s worth weighing up these costs.
-
Would you like a shared or private transfer?
Ski Basics can arrange your private transfer for you - please see the group transfer page for prices. These transfers are for your group only.
Private transfers are also offered by various companies (details above). Private transfer services are provided in 8 or 12 seater minibuses, to collect you from the airport and take you straight to your accommodation. There is no waiting around as they will pick you up based on your flight times.
Some companies also offer shared transfers (details above). These transfers are scheduled, therefore you will need to select the transfer which most closely matches your arrival time. This means that you may have to wait at the airport until your transfer is ready to depart. Shared transfers are priced per person.
There is a greater availability of shared transfers from Geneva airport, compared with the other local airports.
-
Which day are you travelling?
The Ski Basics changeover day is Sunday. Both shared and private transfers run frequently on this day.
If you are travelling on a different day, shared transfers are likely to be far less frequent.
Although you may find a cheaper flight on a weekday, groups travelling on these days may find that they have to pay for a private transfer and this can be costly for smaller groups.
-
What time are you arriving/departing?
Flights that arrive/depart very early or very late are less likely to line up with a shared transfer, so a private transfer is more likely.
-
How many people are in your party?
The number of people traveling together will affect the cost and availability of transfers.
If you are a group of 5 – 8, it is likely to be better value to take a private transfer. For groups of 1 – 4, a shared transfer is probably better value.
-
Will you need child seats for the transfer?
If you’re travelling with children just let the transfer company know their ages and they will provide the appropriate child seat for you.
If you have opted for us to arrange your transfer, just let us know the ages of your children and we’ll make sure the child seats are ready for you.
-
How much will my transfer cost?
The cost of transfers depends on all of the above factors as well as the dates you are travelling.
As a general guide, based on at least 8 people taking a private minibus together, the cost will be £420 from Geneva one way.
-
Are there any alternatives to taking an airport transfer?
Flights that arrive/depart very early or very late are less likely to line up with a shared transfer, so a private transfer is more likely.
From Lyon airport, you can take the train reasonably simply to “Moutiers-Salins-Brides les Bains” train station, then take a transfer from there.
For information on train times and prices please see uk.voyages-sncf.com

Is car hire an option?
